Being a traveller I always wonder “Is there any safe place for women to travel solo in India”? A safe place for solo women travelling in India where I don’t need to worry.
WHY SHOULD WE TRAVEL SOLO IN INDIA?
Have you ever heard or asked any women to travel solo in India? Let me know the reaction in the comment box. If I talk about myself, I always get a question instead of an answer. Are women safe to travel solo in India? Yes, it is safe for women to travel solo in Incredible India. India has a rich culture and heritage that always admire travelers, whether an adventure seeker or a gourmet, a couple, or a solo women traveler. One can find India will be on everyone’s travelling bucket list. You can not resist travelling to India due to its diverse culture also being a tough place to travel. Moreover, India offers you a safe place for women to travel solo. You will observe a different variety of cuisines with a united language of English.
AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT
Identified with the peace-loving father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi, Ahmedabad is undoubtedly the safest place to travel solo in India. It is famous for the Sabarmati Ashram residing on the banks of River Sabarmati. The ashram stands as a witness to the struggles which contributed to India’s independence from British Imperialism. Moreover, Ahmedabad is the first UNESCO World Heritage City of India. The natives are warm-hearted to welcome travellers, and you can trust them blindly. You will never listen to any cases of tourists getting scammed or the girls travelling solo to be bothered in Ahmedabad!
DARJEELING, WEST BENGAL
While the rest of Bengal can be notorious, this place is absolute heaven for solo women travellers. Darjeeling! A jaw-dropping location, enchanting sunrises, the unspoiled beauty of the hills, the charm of the old world of the past, and the welcoming smiles of the locals make Darjeeling one of the most beautiful hill stations in East India. Being so famous and prosperous always rests in the eyes of Attackers. But despite the attack, Hampi did not lose its cultural value. Matanga hill is the best spot to enjoy sunset and sunrise, and Elephant Stables is another famous place in Hampi. It is a perfect blend of all destinations in one place and worth exploring.
KASOL, HIMACHAL PRADESH
Sitting on the banks of the Parvati river, this small town is a backpacker’s paradise as several treks like Kheerganga, Sar Pass, and Malana start from here. It is also known as the ‘Mini Israel of India’, Kasol is dotted with several Italian and Israeli cafes where one can find authentic Italian and Israeli food. Take a walk along the banks of River Parvati, and the picturesque landscape will leave you awe-inspiring. Kasol is increasingly becoming popular among solo women travellers due to the honest and generous nature of the natives. Wear whatever you want, do whatever you want to do – you won’t be getting those “creepy” looks! Even everyone thinks that Kasol is not safe for anyone, but it sounds different. MUNNAR, KERALA

MCLEOD GANJ, HIMACHAL PRADESH
Get down from the bus, and you will realize you have come to a completely different world. With Tibetan flags adorning the streets, it’s a place to fall in love! McLeodganj is the residence-in-exile of the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama. Enjoy the Tibetan cuisine and shop like there is no tomorrow. Get adventurous and trek the four hours up to the mighty Triund Trek. Most cafes and hotels can easily be accessible on foot. McLeod Ganj is a safe place for women to travel solo in India because of its small size and popularity with tourists. There is a strong community feel there, especially with groups of travellers when you hang out at the cafés, bars or partake in one of the volunteering opportunities. In 2018, I even travelled solo to Mcleod Ganj.
SIKKIM: THE SWITZERLAND OF INDIA
The “Chota Packet, Bada Dhamaka” phrase fits just right in the description of this state. Where half of the country is struggling with the patriarchal norms of the society, Sikkim is leading the way by maintaining its matriarchal society. Visit Sikkim not only to explore but also to experience the authenticity of women empowerment. One will find a splendid blend of Hinduism and Buddhism here. With pristine alpine forests and lofty mountains all around, Sikkim is home to one of the scenic treks in India. Also, the nightlife of Gangtok is quite happening. Wink, wink! The organic food and tribal vibes will detoxify you, and the sheer warmth of the locals will make you feel at home.
RISHIKESH: THE SAFEST PLACE TO TRAVEL SOLO
Rishikesh is the safest place for women to travel solo in India. It is also known as the yoga capital of the world. Be it a yoga retreat or adventure activities like white river rafting and bungee jumping. You can experience everything here. Rishikesh is home to world-renowned ashrams and meditation centres. Let the spiritual vibes help you awaken your inner conscience. Beyond the fact that Rishikesh is relatively untouched makes it to the bucket list of all the girls to travel solo in India.
